El COVID19 está pasando factura a las mujeres sobrevivientes o víctimas de violencia en todo el mundo. En Guatemala, y desde nuestro pequeño rincón del Lago Atitlán donde nos ubicamos como organización, queremos seguir con el trabajo que venimos realizando desde 2016, apoyando a mujeres, niños/as y adolescentes a tener una vida libre, plena y sin violencia a través de la organización local Casa Aq’ab’al . Para ello, necesitamos tu ayuda. ¿Para qué? Para contribuir a la sostenibilidad económica y alimenticia de nuestras usuarias (más de 70 familias), a través de la creación de huertos familiares y comunitarios, y de la formación en elaboración de productos naturales para la higiene personal y del hogar como champú, crema corporal y detergente para la ropa.
¿Para quién y qué hacen?
Esta recaudación de fondos es para Casa Aq'ab'al, una institución guatemalteca que trabaja con mujeres, niños/as y adolescentes sobrevivientes de violencia intrafamiliar y contra la mujer en San Lucas Tolimán (Guatemala) desde 2016. En sus pequeñas oficinas, mejor dicho, su casa, atienden a todas aquellas personas que necesiten su apoyo independientemente de edad, género, orientación sexual, etnia, religión/creencia o idioma, ya que su misión es frenar la violencia en el municipio.
Las personas que atienden pueden acceder a los siguientes servicios gratuitos:
· Atención psicológica
· Atención legal
· Refugio
· Atención psiquiátrica
· Formación (huertos y productos naturales)
· Atención desde la cosmovisión maya
Como referencia, en el último año han atendido 113 casos de violencia psicológica, económica, física y sexual afectando a mujeres, niños, niñas, adolescentes y hombres. Sin embargo, durante este mismo periodo han llegado a más de 2,000 personas del municipio con todas las acciones que han realizado incluyendo formación y campañas de comunicación.

¿Qué harán con los fondos?
Se decidió hacer una campaña de recaudación de fondos con el objetivo (4000€**) de conseguir una estabilidad económica para realizar las siguientes acciones durante el próximo año:
- 1260€ para poder seguir con el refugio para mujeres y familias sobrevivientes de violencia intrafamiliar y/o contra la mujer.
- 1930€ para implementar 4 huertos comunitarios y 25 huertos familiares en un año (beneficiando a más de 45 familias – más de 200 personas en total).
- 600€ para realizar 4 talleres con mujeres para que aprendan a elaborar productos de higiene personal y del hogar (beneficiando a unas 100 mujeres al año).
- 210€ para costes de GoFundMe con una media de 76 donaciones a 50€ cada una, y la transferencia bancaria a Guatemala.
Si entre todas y todos conseguimos más del objetivo establecido podrán llegar a más familias tanto en los huertos como en los talleres de formación*. Si se supera por mucho el monto establecido, entregarán kits de higiene a sus usuarias y usuarios.
*Nota: todos los talleres y todas las acciones de Casa Aq’ab’al se han adaptado para seguir con un protocolo de higiene y salud a modo de prevención ante el COVID19.

Esto ha significado dejar los talleres previstos sobre prevención de violencia en escuelas de educación básica (secundaria), ya que las escuelas cerraron, e iniciar acciones para dar sostenibilidad económica a nuestras usuarias y usuarios.
Las acciones tomadas a partir de marzo 2020 fueron:
- Obtención de víveres no perecederos de otras instituciones y distribución de los mismos entre nuestras usuarias y personas que hemos encontrado en el municipio con mucha necesidad (hemos apoyado hasta 85 familias).
- Creación de 29 huertos familiares y 3 huertos comunitarios beneficiando un total de más de 200 personas y 56 familias.
- Organización de talleres sobre fabricación de productos de higiene personal y del hogar para mujeres con el objetivo de crear una línea de producción que ellas mismas pueden vender.
La población de San Lucas Tolimán, más de 30.000 personas ubicadas en zona rural, vive principalmente de la producción de café y aguacate. A pesar de estar a la orilla del Lago Atitlán, este municipio nunca se benefició directamente del turismo internacional, pero sí del turismo nacional y del turismo de voluntariado. El COVID19 ha limitado todas estas acciones y las restricciones de locomoción que ha impuesto el gobierno no han ayudado a una población que vive del día a día. Son muchas las familias que han visto reducidas al 75%, o incluso 100%, sus fuentes de ingreso e incluso algunas familias han dejado de comer los tres tiempos (siendo el principal alimento el maíz).
Además, las restricciones de movimiento impuestas por el Gobierno de Guatemala que están siendo implementadas desde marzo 2020 han supuesto un incremento de la violencia contra la mujer y contra las familias. Las restricciones en la libertad de movimiento con toques de queda de 5pm a 5am o de fines de semanas completos han hecho que las familias estuvieran más tiempo juntas en espacios reducidos. Esto incrementó la violencia que estaban sufriendo y en consecuencia también aumentaron los casos atendidos en nuestra institución. El equipo de Casa Aq’ab’al ha seguido trabajando 24/7 en colaboración con varias instituciones públicas y privadas a nivel local para atender de mejor manera a la población afectada.

WOMEN SURVIVING VIOLENCE IN GUATEMALA
“Surviving domestic violence and/or against women means freedom and plenitude”
COVID19 is taking its toll on women survivors or victims of violence around the world. In Guatemala, and from our little corner of Lake Atitlan where we are located as an organization, we want to continue with the work that we have been doing since 2016, supporting women, children and adolescents to have a free and full life, without violence, through the local organization Casa Aq’ab’al . To do so, we need your help. For what? To contribute to the economic and nutritional sustainability of more than 70 families, through the creation of family and community gardens, and training in the preparation of natural products for personal and household hygiene such as shampoo, body cream and laundry detergent.
For whom and what do they do?
This crowdfunding campaign is on behalf of Casa Aq’ab’al, a Guatemalan institucion which has been working with women, children and adolescents who are survivors of domestic violence and gender based violence in San Lucas Tolimán (Guatemala), since 2016. In their small offices, or rather, their home, they serve all those who need their support regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion/belief or language, since their mission is to stop violence in the municipality.
The people they serve can access the following free services:
· Psychological attention
· Legal attention
· Shelter
· Psychiatric care
· Training (organic gardens and natural products)
· Attention from the mayan cosmovision
As a reference, over the last year, Casa Aq’ab’al attended 113 cases of psychological, economic, physical and sexual violence affecting women, boys, girls, adolescents and men. However, during this same period they reached more than 2,000 people in the municipality with all the actions they carried out, including training and communication campaigns.

What will they do with the funds?
This fundraising campaign has the goal (4000€**) of achieving economic stability to carry out the following actions during next year:
- 1260€ to continue with the shelter for women and families surviving domestic violence and/or against women.
- 1930€ to implement 4 community gardens and 25 family gardens in one year (benefiting more than 45 families – more than 200 people in total).
- 600€ to carry out 4 workshops with women to learn how to make personal and household hygiene products (benefiting about 100 women a year).
- 210€ for GoFundMe costs with an average of 76 donations of 50€ each, and the bank transfer to Guatemala.
If we, together, achieve more than the established objective, Casa Aq’ab’al will reach more families both in the organic gardens and in the training workshops*. If the established mount is far exceeded, they will deliver hygiene kits to their users.
*Note: all workshops and all the actions of Casa Aq’ab’al have been adapted to follow a hygiene and health protocol as a prevention against COVID19.
**Note: For transparency reasons we inform you that the money collected will be received in Spain by Kemonïk NGO (registration G55305387), a partner organization of Casa Aq’ab’al in Spain for the last two years, and Kemonïk NGO will be responsible for transferring it to Guatemala immediately.
Why now?
The health emergency due to COVID19 has extremely affected the poorest Guatemalan population. Consequently, the work of Casa Aq’ab’al has been adapting in recent months to adapt the activities to the next context. This has meant leaving the planned workshops on violence prevention in high schools, since the schools closed, and initiating actions to give economic sustainability to the families we support.
The actions taken as of March 2020 were:
- Obtaining non-perishable food from other institutions and distributing them amongst the families we support. And people we have found in the village in great need (we have supported up to 85 families).
- Creation of 29 family gardens and 3 community gardens benefiting a total of more than 200 people and 56 families.
- Organisation of workshops on how to produce personal and household hygiene for women with the aim of creating a production line that they themselves can sell.
The population of San Lucas Tolimán, more than 30,000 people located in rural areas, lives mainly from the production of coffee and avocado. Despite being on the shore of Lake Atitlan, this village never directly benefited from international tourism, but it did benefit from national and volunteer tourism. COVID19 has limited all these actions and the restrictions on locomotion that the government has imposed have not helped a population that lives from day to day. Many families have seen their sources of income reduced to 75%, or even 100%, and some families have even stopped eating three times a day (corn being the main food).
In addition, the movement restrictions imposed by the Government of Guatemala that have been implemented since March 2020 have led to an increase in violence against women and against families. Restrictions on freedom of movement with curfews from 5pm to 5am or full weekends have resulted in families spending more time together in tight spaces. This increased the violence they were suffering and consequently the cases attended at out institution also increased. The team has continued to work 24/7 in collaboration with various public and private institutions at the local level to better serve the affected population.
